Help! My computer doesn't boot or turns off quickly!

Well, go into F8 in Safe mode when booting.
A list of options will appear, go to Boot Order or something along those lines, and it might look like this:

1. DVD
2. Floppy Disk
3. CD / CD-Disk
4. Another Option

Change Boot from CD to option #1, therefore next time you boot up, if there is a CD in the drive, this will be booted first, you can then reformat your computer and make a new partition.

I still have problems

Well, there is this last resort called CHKDSK (CheckDisk) - is a command in DOS and Microsoft Windows systems which verifies a hard disk or a floppy disk for file system integrity.

Under Windows, CHKDSK can be run both from a console window, as the chkdsk command with flags, and from My Computer using the graphical user interface. For the latter,

* Open My Computer
* Right-click with the mouse on the disk or diskette to scan
* Click Properties
* Click the Tools tab
* Press the Check Now... button in the Error-checking box
* In the box that opens, check boxes allow the same functionality as the command line's /R and /F parameters

When used under Windows with the /F or the /R parameter when there are open files on the disk (for instance if running it on the boot disk) CHKDSK suggests it be run on the next restart. If the user agrees, it will execute autochk.exe when the computer is restarted, which will run the CHKDSK code.

Usually CDKDSK will allow proper booting and recovery options.

REMEMBER:
/f : Does an exhaustive check of the drive and corrects any errors.
/r : Locates bad sectors and recovers readable information.
